KING LAGOON’S FLYING SWORDFISH DANCE BAND

EXOTIC SOUNDS AND AROMAS! KING LAGOON'S PSYCHEDELIC AFRO-LATIN MUSIC SHOW IS BURSTING WITH MULTI-SENSORY DELIGHTS!

Progressive musical ideas and a striking visual style sit comfortably alongside the more traditional and vintage elements of the African and South American inspired rhythms and melodies to create something fresh, powerful, highly energetic and fun. Through the burning of oils and incense, the pulverising of fruit and the boiling of herbs, the Smell Technician creates a developing mix of energising and mysterious aromas. These combine with the colourful and detailed music-synced projections to create a hypnotic and immersive spectacle. Stage decoration as seen in this VIDEO also available.

This versatile group of musicians based in Brighton and London also perform or have performed with acts such as Kalakuta Millionaires, Los Chinches, Norma Winstone, The Gambian National Drum and Dance Group and Turkish percussion master Okay Temiz. The Flying Swordfish have dazzled audiences at festivals such as Bestival, Paris' La Briche Foraine, London Remixed Festival and Secret Garden Party. London venues including Rich Mix, Passing Clouds, Chelsea Arts Club and Hootananny. Glasgow's SWG3 and The Komedia in Brighton. Now arranging bookings for Glastonbury, other festivals and a European tour, King Lagoon's Band continue to make waves and are waiting to bring them to you!

"We are the royal band of a tropical island king from another dimension. The realm of King Lagoon has many diverse and exotic lands and small islands where the royal flotilla races and cruises to the sounds of the King's favourite A bands. It's about a whole experience. The music can totally be a stand-alone thing but we want live shows to transport the audience to another realm as much as possible. It's not just about escapism though; we want to send you out of the venue with the vividness and excitement of the show, like a psychedelic catapult!” – Rodrigo

It was circa 2008 when band leader, musical mastermind and conceptual architect Rodrigo Kerr was introduced to the highlife sounds of 1970s Nigeria. His love for African and Latin music grew quickly; Congolese soukous and congotronics, Saharan blues, Brazil's many rhythms, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou, Beny Moré and other Cuban legends. While keeping a taste for the psychedelic that his current band employed, he developed his guitar styles and rhythmic ideas and gradually brought together The Flying Swordfish.

"All the elements combine to evoke a nostalgic feeling of magical places that feel like home and yet are only visited in dreams.” – Rodrigo
